Information Regarding AUTOTHEORIES S25
x

Hello.

For spring semester 2025, I will be teaching two courses in Literary Arts at Brown. Both of these courses are centered in fiction and are classes in creative writing that ask you to think in interdisciplinary ways. This page explains how to enter the lottery for a seat in AUTOTHEORIES, which is an intermediate workshop class.

AUTOTHEORIES (aka LITR 0210A, Fiction II), Wednesdays at 3pm >> ENTER VIA LOTTERY

This is an intermediate fiction workshop course in which we will be thinking through how we know ourselves, describe ourselves, and explain ourselves to others. It is a course in autotheory—a type of self-theorization that partakes of some of the tools of fiction in order to create knowledge and the possibility of reflection. We will be reading such authors as Hilton Als, Alexander Chee, Audre Lorde, Maggie Nelson, Paul Preciado, Susan Sontag, and Virginia Woolf, among others. We will engage in collaborative workshop sessions and produce polished works by the end of the semester.

TO BE ENTERED IN THE LOTTERY: Please email lucy_ives@brown.edu to express interest and plan to attend the first meeting of the course on January 29th (note that the lottery will be held January 22nd and there will be no class on this day).
